The Role
In partnership with CHIA NSW, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a housing cadet. The housing cadet is responsible for completing a Certificate IV in Social Housing as part of a 12-month cadetship program in partnership with CHIA NSW. The housing cadet will acquire knowledge, training and experience in property and tenancy management tasks under direct guidance and supervision by CHL staff.
This role will be based in Kempsey.
About You
The aim of the Cadetship Program is to provide pathways into employment and training to people who are likely to be unemployed and/or experiencing barriers to stable and ongoing employment.
We encourage applicants who fit the following criteria to apply:
CHIA NSW will prioritse people who are able to undertake both fulltime study and employment, able to study at the Certificate IV level and are looking to re-enter or gain secure ongoing employment in community housing.
Other essential criteria include:
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of people experiencing social disadvantage and commitment to the right of every person to good quality housing.
Current Driver’s Licence (preferred but not essential)
Satisfactory Police, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Checks
Please note: a satisfactory police check is required for all staff and those with client related responsibilities are required to provide a NDIS and Working with Children Check (WWCC). Please ensure that you have the required identification to complete these checks.

Complete an Online Application Form
Read the information on our website communityhousing.org.au/cadetship and complete the online application form via the link in the information booklet. Be sure to include a brief statement outlining why you would like to be part of the cadetship.
Eligibility Check via Phone
We will call you to discuss your application and tell you more about the cadetship. If you are eligible, your application will be given to the participating Community Housing Providers.
Attend an Interview
If successful, you will be invited to attend an interview with a Community Housing Provider to discuss the cadetship and your suitability.
Cadetship Offer
If successful, you will receive an offer of 12 months employment as a Cadet. Employment will begin on 24 February 2025.
Attend Induction
Your training program with CHIA NSW will commence with a 5-day induction from 3 March 2025.
