Aboriginal Community Development Officer

Aboriginal Community Housing Limited (ACHL) is supported by Community Housing Limited (CHL) in its operation as it strives to become an independent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led and managed national housing organisation. It is a community housing organisation that manages properties across Australia, with an aim to provide culturally appropriate property and tenancy management nationally.  Join our South Australian team supporting the implementation of ACHL and CHL’s Community Development Framework in the region. You will be responsible for community development projects that reflect local identity, build community capacity to actively participate in community life and create places that are meaningful and culturally appropriate to local communities. This role will be based at a variety of locations across Adelaide, including Tika Tirka, an accommodation service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders students. You will: Foster community development activities in accordance with CHL’s Community Development Framework (CDF) and role model commitment to the community development and action principles. This will include:Engaging closely with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and creating projects from community ideas, ensuring community ownership of projectsManaging and facilitating community development projectsWriting proposals, project briefs, business plans, grant applications and reports in collaboration with communityEstablishing and maintaining effective partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, government agencies, community organisations, research bodies and private sector businessesAssisting in promoting ACHL and CHL’s CDF to colleagues, partner agencies and communitiesSupporting effective communication with colleagues across ACHL and CHL about community development initiatives and outcomesParticipating collaboratively in ACHL and CHL’s community development peer support networkWhat will success look like?You will be passionate about creating community-led projects and committed to applying a strengths-based approach to your work practice. You will demonstrate experience in a similar role, including working in partnership and building relationships with community networks. You will also have local knowledge of the region, including existing networks and a demonstrated ability to work alongside local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. In addition, you will have: Exceptional communication skills, including include the ability to communicate clearly within complex and diverse conversational contextsExcellent time management including high level administration and coordination skillsA positive attitude when working towards achieving deliverables, including a passion for using your initiative, innovation and creativityKnowledge of the work area to assist in decision making and solutions for day-to-day problemsThe ability to work independently as part of a wider team and adapt in a fast-paced environmentA current driver’s licenseA commitment to the right of all people to affordable and sustainable housing.This is an Identified position.
